Keep You Safe

Tonight my heart became so overwhelmed for you it felt as though it would burst. The cows in the field were put in the barn for the winter & for the first week they cry without ceasing. All through the night. I tried to say they were singing songs. That they were happy to be together. Yet I knew that you understood their sadness. I could see it in your eyes. For the first time I saw your face covered in fear. So much you couldn’t understand, so much I don’t know how to explain. Oh sweet baby my momma heart broke so deeply tonight for you.

So I did the only thing my heart could. I prayed for Gods spirit to fill the room. To give you courage, to feel the angels watching over you. I held you tight & for the first time in what seems like ages we rocked. As we finally laid down you asked me to stay, that fear still deep within your eyes but blurred by weary. So I sang your favorite lullaby. Staring in your eyes, I sang my promise to your heart. My own overwhelmed with its truth. This is the most precious part of motherhood. To speak these promises over their lives as they stare back resting our vows of love & safety.

If you don’t own the I Dream Of You album by JJ Heller you NEED to get it. These are the most beautiful, heartfelt lullabies to our children wrapped in promises of love.

Keep You Safe By JJ Heller
Quiet your heart
It’s just a dream
Go back to sleep

I’ll be right here
I’ll stay awake as long as you need me
To slay all the dragons
And keep out the monsters
I’m watching over you

My love is a light
Driving away all of your fear
So don’t be afraid
Remember I made a promise to keep you safe

You’ll have your own battles to fight
When you are older

You’ll find yourself frozen inside
But always remember
If you feel alone
Facing the giants
And you don’t know
What to do

My love is a light
Driving away all of your fear
So don’t be afraid
Remember I made a promise to keep you safe

My love is a light
Driving away all of your fear
So don’t be afraid
Remember I made a promise to keep you safe
